Agabek Bozorboev's path in IT: from a newbie to a CTO in a large IT company

Agabek Bozorboev started working at Green White Solutions back in 2016. Then, as a graduate of TATU, he faced a choice – to continue his education in Korea or stay in Uzbekistan and try his luck in IT. Intuition pushed him to the second – and Agabek does not regret it at all. Today, at 30 years old, he is the Technical Director at one of the most successful and famous IT companies – Green White Solutions. How did he achieve such results?
Agabek himself will tell you everything.

- Please tell us the story of your career choice?
My story begins with mathematics. My parents, teachers of mathematics and physics, inspired me to study the exact sciences since childhood. I dreamed of doing scientific work, exploring complex mathematical concepts. However, a month before the entrance exams, my plans changed dramatically.

The main reason was the warning from my parents: they often said that the profession of a mathematics teacher is very difficult and requires great patience. The second reason is the specificity of scientific work. In mathematics, it sometimes takes decades or even centuries to see the fruits of your research. For example, modern technologies are based on discoveries made hundreds of years ago.

Having realized this, I began to look for a more applied direction where I could immediately see the results of my work. The railway sector seemed boring, but IT, closely related to mathematics, attracted me with the opportunity to quickly implement my ideas.

What I like about the IT sphere is that each created project is not only creativity, but also instant feedback. This choice became my entry point into the world of technology, where I can apply mathematical logic and enjoy creating something new.

- In what position and in what company did you start your career?
When I was a 4th-year student, our colleague Ayubkhan Ubaidullaev came to the university to invite a friend, Sunnat Khozhiev, to work at Green White Solutions. We were having lunch on the university campus, Adham Toshkanov (currently working on the Verifix project), me and Siroz Samadov (who had also worked with us for many years), Ayubkhon met us, told us about the company and invited us to the office to take a test assignment. In the end, we came to Green White Solutions and, by the will of fate, the three of us were invited. So, since February 2016, I have been working in the company.

At the time of my arrival, the 5th version of Smartup was being developed. All three of us were given a simple task - to write a form for the Catalog and Reports functions.

Since then, I have been working in the company. We are mastering the work gradually. I worked on myself and reached my current position thanks to my knowledge and hard work.

- What mistakes did you make during your first job and what conclusions did you draw for yourself?
My first job was actually at a high level. It was necessary to make an accounting calculation from the highest level - one of the highest requirements of accounting. Of course, this area was new to me, the level was high, and I had to study it completely.

And I came to the following conclusion: you can learn any business by making mistakes, and when creating any solution, you need to communicate with the customer - that is, I know exactly what problem he faced and what he expects from the solution - in order to create a correct and useful IT product. You should not be afraid to make mistakes, because the inability to change the mistake made is the real problem.

- Now among young people studying in the IT field, there is such a concept: I can write code, I am an IT specialist! How true is this opinion? Can a person become an expert JUST by writing code?
The industry that IT serves is of great importance. There are concepts of theory and practice. A programmer is a person who knows more about the area for which he writes code than 99% of other people. Often, to write code, we first completely immerse ourselves in the field, study it. This takes a lot of time, but in the end, when creating the right product, we spend less time.

If you want to give something to the consumer, you need to study their wishes, cases, area and direction of business. Of course, this is not necessary. But you will get the result faster. Perhaps, with 20% of the time spent, you can get the desired result.

To be a good programmer, the area must be interesting to you, you must always be open to news, you must be open to changes - you need to analyze the problem correctly and offer the necessary solution.

The life of a programmer always passes between mistakes and achievements, he always has problems. Basically, we often hear more criticism than gratitude. It's like with doctors! A programmer's brain works 24 hours - he thinks, looks for the right approaches and solutions, tests. If there is a problem, he looks for a solution. A programmer's working time is not 8 hours, his brain is always working. He is in an eternal search!
- What makes Smartup unique?
First, it is many years of experience.

The second uniqueness is the database - Oracle. Our codes are adapted for medium and large businesses. The process is built in such a way that it fully covers the scale of a large business, but small businesses may not have such a scale, and such processes may not be needed at all.

Oracle's strengths are security and fast analysis of large amounts of data. If something happens to the data, Oracle will be able to restore it.

Otherwise, we created the system using codes that everyone uses.

One of our significant achievements is the presence of an internal Beruniy library, which is constantly updated. Its key function is to ensure uniformity in the system, which contains more than 1000 codes. If changes occur, for example, a tab is added to a filter, the library automatically makes adjustments to all formulas in the system, ensuring their synchronization.

All our projects are built on this library: Smartup, UZPHARMINFO, Verifix. This allows us to implement changes quickly and efficiently, maintaining the high quality of our solutions.

- You are one of the famous programmers in our country. Have you received any offers to work abroad? Maybe you had an idea to go to work in another country?
Yes, I have received job offers, and I have also received offers to continue my education abroad.

When I first started my professional career, Abdukakhhor Tashmukhamedov, the head of GWS, made me a wonderful offer that changed my life and destiny! I still remember his words: “I plan for employees to receive American salaries while they work in our company! We will definitely reach a higher level, and you will receive a decent salary! We have great potential, we believe in the future of our product!”

Over the years, I have received many offers to work abroad. But for me, the most important values are my parents and my family! It is harder for me to live without seeing them. For me, it is important to spend time with my parents at least once a week, to celebrate my victories and holidays with my family. I did not think about material issues at all! That's why I didn't go abroad!

If the company we are building can employ 1,000 or 10,000 people in the near future, then this will be my greatest contribution - my compatriots will not earn money working in other countries, far from their families, they will be able to earn this money in Uzbekistan near their loved ones! To achieve this goal, I need to work in my country and contribute to its development!

- Today, unfortunately, the idea of going to work abroad is widespread among young programmers. What would you recommend to them?
The choice is up to everyone! But first, you need to ask yourself: "What do I want?", "What kind of life do I want to live in the next 4-5 years?" Go abroad to study? Or do you just want to live and experience the lifestyle of another country?

I have never worked abroad. But I can say one thing - today in Uzbekistan there are many opportunities for a competent specialist - he can work in a foreign company while being here, he can go and live abroad to study for a master's degree - this will be an additional achievement to the resume.

In our country, in the IT field, you can earn the same salary as living abroad. Nowadays, in the era of globalization, borders have disappeared. You can do the work of any country while being anywhere in the world - you just need to know the language and have sufficient competence (qualification) for this!

Today, it is fashionable to take IELTS. Good study of English opens up many opportunities for reading more books and gaining knowledge. But, in my opinion, getting a certificate should not be the final goal. Many say that the main thing is to enter a university. But this does not answer the main question: "What should I do next? What is my goal?"

Often there are cases when, after studying for 3-4 years, young people understand that this area is not interesting to them, they do not see their future in it. But at the same time, years will be wasted. For this, it is necessary to know exactly what you want in advance and, if necessary, get advice.

Many people think that you can make a lot of money in IT! But how many people worked for years with low wages due to lack of education, how many people left the industry altogether, how many people left it without being able to lift their burden, many do not know this! These aspects should also be taken into account.
- What opportunities does Green White Solutions provide to its employees?
The company has set ambitious plans for itself - to implement its solutions on a global scale. I consider the motivation of its employees for development to be a great achievement. That is, it is impossible to get stuck at level 1 in the company - you must always work on yourself, learn and improve your skills. For this, highly qualified employees train others, foreign specialists are invited or there is an international P&P course (jointly with the Japanese center) 50% of the cost of training is paid, or if the employee successfully completes the course and receives an IT certificate, then the funds spent on obtaining the certificate are returned by the company. All development activities are encouraged.

If you are interested in business training, Green White Solutions users include the largest distribution companies in our country and Central Asia. There is a golden rule in IT: if people do not use what you create, your efforts are worth 0!

In Green White Solutions, you have the opportunity to create and test solutions that will benefit the business! This is a unique IT laboratory!

- What position did you join the company in and what position do you hold today?
In 8 years, I have grown to the position of CTO (technical manager). I joined the company as a Trening student - a position lower than Junior.

- What 3 factors led you to your current position as a CTO?
My goal is to always strive to be better.

Responsibility is something we have been taught since childhood, the desire to teach others and give the necessary knowledge.

My family, friends and manager Abdukakhhor Tashmukhamedov - if someone always motivates you to work on yourself and grow, you will definitely have the desire and aspiration.
- 5 tips for young people who have just entered the IT sphere
1. Strengthen logic and mathematics.
2. You need to think carefully - do you really want to become an IT developer, and the main goal should not be money
3. In the near future, the IT sphere will be partially covered by artificial intelligence, only developers will remain. You need to be ready for this.
4. By nature, an IT specialist should strive to find solutions to problems or difficulties.
5. A developer should be sociable, not an introvert. Because finding a problem in himself requires additional resources and time. And it, as you know, is very expensive!

- What 3 qualities do you associate Green White Solutions with?
1. A team that is always ready to help each other
2. Constant development and growth.
3. Strong products created by a strong team

- What are your plans for the future?
Development of the CTO position, next year I plan to start studying for a master's degree. I have my own plans for life. I make separate plans for each year and summarize the results at the end of the year.

I have plans for the near future related to my parents. One of the important plans for me is to open an IT university for girls in Uzbekistan and create all the conditions for women to get a free qualified education there. My wife and I came up with this plan and are now working together to implement it.

Another of my plans is to contribute to the construction of Green White Solutions as a world-famous company expanding the geography of its products! For me, the company has become a second family, and its perfection is my perfection.

Agabek Bozorboev is a shining example of how perseverance, hard work and responsibility can lead an intern to a managerial position in a relatively short period of time! This is possible when you believe in your business and have a team of like-minded people next to you, ready to support and motivate at any time! We hope that Agabek's story will become a beacon of success for young professionals, guiding them on the right path!
